When Disaster Strikes, You Find Out How RICH You Are

It has been a little while since my last post. I apologize for that. I have been overwhelmed with life here lately.

I have let so many little things in my life dictate my happiness.  I let others hate and anger influence my life. I let my own anger seep out. I had a wake-up call last week. I was given a reminder on just how short life is and how precious family and friends are in a time of need.

Last week, a couple of very dear friends of mine lost their home to a fire. It was deemed a complete loss. They were left with literally nothing but the clothes on their backs. Thank God that no one was home and that they still have their family together. My heart has hurt for them. Not because they lost material things of this world. But, because as a mom I cannot even begin to imagine what they are going through with their children. Their toys, pajamas, beds, pets…all gone.

How as a parent do you explain this to your little ones? I have worked with local Red Cross and Salvation Army branches to offer some support, but it just feels like it isn’t enough. They are broke…but not financially. Their spirit is broken. I am sure they feel defeated and scared. There have been many people who have offered their support to this family. I have been blessed that God has allowed me to witness this generosity. Complete strangers are giving money and clothing to a family they know nothing about; only knowing that they are in need.

This won’t be a long post, but I just want to be a reminder to all of you. Are you doing your part? Are you being a light in this world of darkness? Are you being a reminder to everyone that there still are good people in this world who care? If you can’t answer yes to these questions, please take a moment and evaluate what you can be doing differently. I will be praying for you.

Rubber Checks are no good....Wise up Deadbeats!

Today, I am writing about a subject that might make some of you uncomfortable, or even offend you. If that is the case, put on your big girl panties and deal with it

Yes, we have established that I am broke; owe lots of money to lots of people. But I think that I am an ok individual. Take that back, I know I am ok. I look around the county that I live in and see so many people who are in the same boat as me. But there is a difference between them and me. I am broke and have morals and class. Sadly, there are some who do not.

Here is my motto for how I live much of my life; if you can’t afford it, then you can’t afford it. I get so mad when I see all these deadbeats who have warrants out for their arrest for writing bad checks. Didn't someone ever tell them how irresponsible that was? I realize that the majority of these people don't care that this makes them look ridiculous. But most of these people have children. For goodness sake, you know how embarrassing that must be to have your mugshot plastered on the internet all because you decided to be an irresponsible adult. Grow up! Not only do you have to deal with the repercussions of this, but so do your kids. They have to go to school and here other kids make fun of them because their parents decided to act like deadbeats.

What’s even sadder is that a lot of these people are in denial. They seemed to have forgotten that their hand is the one that signed those bad checks. I love hearing them talk in the grocery store about it, when they think no one else is listening. I hear “oh it was a mistake and I made the sheriffs dept. fix it”. LOL Really? Then why did they have your mugshot to begin with? Oh they must’ve followed you around and snapped one of you right?

Geez. It is people like this who give the rest of us broke folks a bad name. I am not saying that I have never had an overdraft at the bank. But I have never denied it, and I have always brought my account into good standing. People need to realize that every decision and choice you make in this life have consequences. It is sad that some seem to think that this world owes them.

Here is my advice to you: The world does not revolve around you; nor does anyone owe you anything! You want something in this life you work for it and earn it. Pay your bills! Don't overextend yourself. And most of all, be the kind of person that your kids are proud to call their parents
.
Again, if this offended anyone it wasn't intended to, it was my rant for the day!

Until next time….

Broke Momma Meghan

Hi. My name is Meghan and I have a problem!  No, I am not an alcoholic, but a financially challenged

individual. I am married and have 3 wonderful kids who are my entire world.  I live in the middle of
nowhere Missouri, if anyone ever wants to know where the Boondocks are, I will give you directions.
I was recently approached by my friend to start a blog and talk about being broke all the time. “What
the heck, I already do that as it is”. Therefore, here it is…

I have been poor, broke, lower class; whatever you might, call it my entire adult life.  I do not blame anyone for my circumstances; I just deal with the hand that has been dealt to me.  However, I definitely do not do it quietly.  I do not believe people who think that a person can change their destiny or improve their lives by simply wishing it to be.  I have worked hard my entire life and have very little to show for it. But I have a roof over my head and my kids are clothed and fed and to me that is a lot. I love my life, but I do not love all the financial hardships that I have been through.  I feel like I am a poster child for those get out of debt commercials.

“Are you stressed, have bill collectors calling day and night, can’t see the future because you’re drowning in the present”

YES! I use myself and my situation as an example to my kids.  I am constantly telling them to never do things the way I did them, I only pray they are listening. I am putting this out there because I want others to know that they aren't alone and that there are other normal people out there who have the same problems. Ok, maybe I exaggerated a tad when I called myself normal. This is a sounding board for me, a place to vent my frustrations and trials about debt and being broke. But it is also meant to be healing for me as well. I have the horrible tendency to bottle up and not let any of my problems out.  I realized that by doing this, it is really hurting me. Taking my pride down a notch and sharing these thoughts with you is a step towards coping for me. Therefore, with the hope that you have found a kindred spirit with who you can share your thoughts and emotions, I hope to see ya next time.
